Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarise. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you. – 1 Corinthians 14:26 (NLT)
This week we considered:
1 Corinthians 14:26 and spent time discussing and sharing these 3 things:
◦ What’s God doing in you lately?
◦ What’s God doing through you lately?
◦ Is there anything you feel God wants you to share with the group today?
Charlotte also shared Psalm 100 ‘Shout for joy to the Lord all the Earth…’ and I was touched and thankful for the things I heard that day, from within our small groups and from the front. So, I thought that to Go Deeper this month we could run the ‘Just One Thing’ challenge!
This is an all age/all household challenge to express our gratitude to God. There are many scriptures that encourage us to give thanks to God for all things: See 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Colossians 3:17, 1 Chronicles 16:34, Philippians 4:6, Romans 5:3-5, Psalm 107:8-9. Practising gratitude is now known to improve our mental and physical wellbeing. It’s good for us and it’s good for others!
Over the next few weeks, before we meet at the September celebration, could you each day, write one word that describes something that you are thankful for to God.
This could be anything at all: sunshine, a scripture, a person, nature, a pet, a job, health, family, chocolate, salvation, love, freedom – perhaps the 1st thing that pops into your head in the morning.
Scribble your 1 thing onto a little scrap of paper, and pop it into a jar, box or envelope to bring to the next celebration (you can send it along if you’re not able to attend).
Sometimes it’s good to actually see something in action. So, during the worship, we will gather all of our gratitude momento’s together in a big basket, rather like a collection or offering and celebrate the everlasting goodness of God.
To get you in the mood, listen to The Goodness of God (Bethel Music):
