This Sunday we continued in our Lenten ‘listening mode’.

Sometimes we can realise ‘after the event’ that God has been speaking to us about something; but life and busyness can so easily drown out ‘his still small voice’.

Reflect

Take a few minutes to think about your current day-to-day: have you been reading something recently that has made you stop and think? Maybe you’ve watched a film or had a conversation with someone and that internal bell has rung?

As you sit quietly for 5 minutes today, ask God to remind you of that moment, or to speak afresh. There may be something that he’s really wanting to say to you!

As we take time to gaze at God, we can be assured that he is already gazing at us. He loves us and longs to spend time with us.

Go Deeper

Want to spend more time practicing listening to God? Why not use this week’s Psalm: 130 as a prayer:

A song of ascents.

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
    Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
    to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
    Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
    from all their sins.
