It was lovely to worship together on Sunday, and to welcome Joy and Steve from the local charity The Besom (Sheffield).
Steve shared about his prayerful approach to early retirement, and his desire to be involved in something that extended the Kingdom of God. His heart was to ensure that whatever he started, should be something that would take people out of the church building and into the community.
The Besom (Sheffield) was finally launched after a time of seeking God, waiting, praying with others, and learning about how the project functions. The team continue to meet and pray together weekly, seeking God’s direction and grace.
Besom’s role is primarily to bless those in need through the provision of new &/or good quality domestic items. They generally work on a referral basis followed up by a personal visit and assessment. Joy shared some of the stories of God’s amazing faithfulness and generosity over the years. But she also described the heart transformation that inevitably takes place for everybody involved in the project.
Besom’s approach is simple and the results inspiring! The key points from their presentation are below; but if you wish to know more, or would like to visit the project yourself, check out their website (see link below).
Please be praying for Besom, and if you wish to bless them financially, the gift link is also below.
Key points:
• We need to get out of our buildings!
• Besom don’t own anything (apart from the van which God provided).
• They act as facilitators: connecting givers & receivers alike as items or needs arise.
• The team meet weekly to pray about any needs and spiritual direction.
• They do not publicly ask for any needs/items but are totally reliant on God’s provision.
• Their aim is 2-fold: to combat poverty & to foster transformation in the giver.
• God is always faithful & generous!
• They’re continually surprised by him!
