Read:
We were thinking about the concept of servants and serving at our Equipping meeting this week, and, moreover, ‘serving from a place of rest’.
This is not always easy for people and churches who are naturally active. When we’re faced with potential staffing gaps for our groups and ministries, for instance, we can step up, but then find ourselves too busy and overstretched. We can get stuck in roles and perhaps miss out on the very thing God is calling us to do. Busyness can come about from the best intentions but can cause us to run out of steam and serve from a place of desperation rather than rest and love.
Learning to live by the ‘unforced rhythms of grace’ takes practice and discipline. Spending dedicated time in the company of Jesus; practicing the spiritual disciplines, can help bring about clarity, spiritual growth, and balance. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can discern the voice of Jesus more easily and make decisions or take actions based on his will.
Matthew 11: 28-30
‘Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.
I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly’.(The Message)
Reflect:
This week, let’s reflect on these 3 questions:
Q1. In what ways have you changed since becoming a Christian?
Q2. How have you impacted others since becoming a Christian?
Q3. What is your primary calling or gifting at this time?
