This is a turn of phrase I’m sure most of us have heard at one time or another. To some of us, it’s a virtuoso guitar instrumental, for others a Damien Hirst sculpture, maybe a film? Or maybe you’ve heard it used as a substitute swear word. But of course, its original use was to describe our love of, and for God; and God’s love of, and for us.

Love is a key attribute of God – In 1 John [4:8 & 16] we read that “God is love,” – but until we experience His love for ourselves, I’d go so far as to suggest we actually know very little about God himself.

All of us are familiar with people misusing God’s name one way or another, we hear it on a regular basis. How do you interpret these ‘mild’ blasphemies when you hear them? Indeed, is there actually such a thing as a ‘mild’ blasphemy? Please join the conversation and let us know below.

In the meantime, for the love of God, take a look at the verses below…

God’s Love and Ours:

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. –1 John 4:7-12 (NIV)
