Read:

Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine;
Living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am thine.

Moment by moment I’m kept in his love;
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am thine.

Never a trial that he is not there,
Never a burden that he doth not bear,
Never a sorrow that he doth not share,
Moment by moment, I’m under his care.

Never a weakness that he doth not feel,
Never a sickness that he cannot heal;
Moment by moment, in woe or in weal,
Jesus, my Saviour, abides with me still.  – “Moment by Moment” by Daniel W. Whittle (1840-1901)

I love the thought of life being in moments. We rarely remember whole days or weeks but we remember important moments. Moment by moment with God, his Spirit in us, guiding us, helping us to become more loving towards people (hopefully). If only I remembered God in the moments when I wasn’t being loving toward someone(!), maybe it would change my whole perspective.

The words of the hymn remind me of Psalm 91 which states:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
  will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
 my God, in whom I trust.” – Psalm 91:1-2

Meditate & Pray:

Use this awesome image depiction of Psalm 91 that I found by Jennie Pitts Tucker (taken from: https://parkchurch.org/2019/06/19/psalm-91-artwork/)

Why not play the music again whilst staring at the picture? What do you notice? What might God be saying to you through his Spirit in you?

Consider the following questions:

  • What emotions does this picture cause in you?
  • Does this picture lead you to pray for something specific?
